Information Based Books:

If you are a beginning sous vide enthusiast then I highly suggest you check out my write-up on Books for Beginners.  I think its a fairly good list to get you started.  With that being said, consider also picking up a book or two related more towards the science that is happening within your kitchen.

Below is a short list of some of my favorite books related to cooking and sous vide.  However, expect these reads to provide more information and explanation towards cooking and the sciences behind it over recipes and guides.

The Food Lab: Better Home Cooking Through Science

The Food Lab: Better Home Cooking Through Science cookbook, offers up an 88% positive 5star amazon review. Quite an informational book it delves into topics further than sous vide, and makes the top of our list for that reason alone. Expect to learn important information from the author such as knife holding techniques, how heat actually works in cooking, kitchen essentials, and organization tips. Furthermore, this book does offer recipes and organizes them by meal types. Strung within those recipes even more tips, tricks, and helpful notes are mentioned.

Ideas in Food: Great Recipes and Why They Work

This book is not necessarily for the new beginner to a kitchen. However, it's not hard to read and if you work in the food industry it should be a must-read. This book covers topics in my opinion that other books are afraid to mention. How much salt is enough, for example, is one of the early parts of the book that explains how to properly season and why foods can only retain so much salt "safely". This book is currently in my kindle library and I loved reading it, and continue to re-read it often. To further build off of this book, I suggest checking the author's blog our at https://blog.ideasinfood.com where there are more photos, articles, and recipes to view.

Under Pressure: Cooking Sous Vide (The Thomas Keller Library)

Thomas Keller is one incredible chef and this book is one tiny effort to show that. Expect to learn the sous vide technique at a new perspective, learning better yields for the cooking techniques you already use. Don't be fooled though, we placed this book here specifically because it can be a bit much to handle for a home cook! As it does provide recipes, but more for the harder to obtain proteins such as quail, pigeon, rabbit, etc. I suggest the more cooking adept men and women of the world to want to read this book over the usual home cook. That being said, it still offers a wealth of information to learn from. Quite possibly enough to establish the foundation towards the next financial crash.

Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat: Mastering the Elements of Good Cooking

Four simple words may have never meant more before. They are the practical causation as to why many of us may say "it always tastes better when someone else cooks for you". Hell, I've said it and I am that someone else who cooks for YOU. This book includes a bit of humor, a dash of visuals, and a lot of flavors sprinkled within it. This book sells on Amazon for just around $20.00 and boasts amazing reviews, most of which are 5 star raitings. Give it a good read, cover to cover. Then start cooking and expect to build on to what you know with better technique. If you are cooking often, then this book will help you understand what you are really doing and why its working... Or not working... Enjoy!
